Life throwing curve balls......Time for endings and beginnings.

Wow, I can't believe how long it's been since I've updated my blog. With the curve ball I was thrown late last week, I've decided to dust off this blog and begin again. It's a time for new beginnings, new adventures are on the horizon. It's also a time for endings. Before anyone get's too worried, the curve ball is not life or death, not even health related, but life does have a way of making you pause for a few minutes to take stock. In light of that fact, I'm dusting off my blog and documenting my journey, hopefully this will also help me rediscover my creative path, which has been missing for most of 2015, so here goes.

It has most definitely been a year of changes, the best news of all is that I became a great aunt in February. Synnovea (Snowy) was born to my niece Teresa on Feb 10th.
Isn't she adorable......

Here she is at 7.5 months

She's growing up so fast. Soon she will be running around getting into all kinds of trouble.

I've also been reconnecting with old friends. In February, I caught up with one of my closest friends, Heather, it had been several years since we had seen each other, Getting together for breakfast and lots of catching up was so wonderful, hopefully, we will be able to get together again soon. Colorado isn't that far away.....

In March, my twin (from another mother and 3 years younger) was in Vegas for a conference. We were able to spend an afternoon and evening together. After, 33 years, we still were sisters, and will continue to keep in touch.

In May, I spent the weekend in San Diego, at Scrapbook Expo, and catching up with family. My aunt was visiting her daughter-in-law and grand-daughter for the week, so I got to see them for dinner.

Stephanie, Jaime, Lucy and I at BJ's. I also had the chance to meet up with an old friend from college, we spent several hours talking and having a couple of glasses of wine. Since then we've met up again in Las Vegas for my birthday, and spent many enjoyable hours on the phone. I'm enjoying having a new-old friend back in my life.

In the next few weeks I'm hoping to catch up with an old friend from high school, when he's in town for a conference, it's been several years since we've seen each other. The last time was at one of our reunions. I'm looking forward to spending time with him and his girlfriend.

All of these meetings have been great and none were expected, so I am grateful for the chance to get together with everyone. These are all new beginnings. I love spending time with everyone.

In September, I moved into my own apartment again. I enjoyed living at Pat's and she is a great fun, but I'm not a very good roommate, I've spent too many years on my own, and had a hard time adjusting to having someone around all of the time. I also didn't have a lot of space, which most likely has contributed to my lack of creativity for the past year. I now have a nice, new 2 bedroom place and have been busy setting up housekeeping. Next task, cleaning out the guest room, so I can set up my creative space, and maybe have some house guests.

Now for the endings......Late last week, work threw me a curve ball. In the midst of all of the re-organization going on at IGT, there we layoffs, and while I've been able to avoid the ax for the past 7 years of layoffs, this time I wasn't so lucky. November 6th will be my last official day at IGT, while I'm a bit sad and scared, I'm also somewhat excited about finding a new career. Keep your fingers crossed, that I find something that's a good fit for my skillset.

I guess that's all for now. I will be updating the blog with my job hunt results as well as working on finding my creativity mojo.

Thanks and keep dreaming.

Beginning Again...2015

So, it seems like a very long time since I've posted - and it has been over a year, so much has been going on. After moving back to Vegas, in December of 2013, it has taken me almost a year to get back into the swing of things. It's been a long time since I've had a roommate, and it is taking me a bit of time to get used to shared space. One of the hardest things is that I've lost my crafty area, so much of my stuff is still in storage (yes, even a year later). Slowly, it is making it's way from the storage units to the house, but I get frustrated at times when I can't find something that I know I have. This year I will be making more of an effort to be organized so I can find things a bit more easily.

The first project for the new year actually started a couple of days ago and hopefully will finish up by the weekend. First let me preface, since I moved in with a friend, it is taking a lot of organization to bring two full households together - First step, the garage ..... Not sure I want to show a before picture, but here goes

Some it mine, some is hers, and it's all a mess. My goal this week has been to clean out boxes, donate, throw and organize the rest. As of today we are about 2/3rds done. I will finish up tomorrow with the goal of getting my freezer out of storage in the next couple of weeks. The garage has lots of built in storage which helps as well. Once the freezer is out of storage, I will be able to consolidate all of my things into 2 storage units instead of 3, I have an organizational plan, and it will help me save money as well. Once I've got things straightened out, and the garbage out to the curb, I will post the after picture.

This year, I was able to make some trips to different areas of the country, that I don't normally get to visit and a trip home to Minnesota (you can take the girl out of MN but you can't take MN out of the girl).

The first big trip of the year was to a rainy Minnesota for my Grandma's funeral. While it was for a sad occasion, it was very nice to see many cousins that I hadn't seen in years (many for over 20 years).

This is a family picture, with all of the Trembley, Holmes and Malone aunts, uncles and cousins in attendance. The family in this picture came from Michigan, South Dakota, Maryland, California, Minnesota and Nevada (me).

In June, I got the chance to visit my cousins in San Diego, when I made the trip to Scrapbook Expo to take some classes. While my cousin Kyle Malone the Navy Pilot, was out on his ship, I got to visit with his wife Jaime, her mom Pam, and Jaime and Kyle's daughter Lucy.

Unfortunately, during this trip, I broke my camera, but was able to get a picture of Lucy and myself, thanks to Jaime.

My next adventure was a cross-country drive from Vegas to Clintonville, WI to help one of my best friends move back home. Driving a UHaul cross-country, never thought I'd be doing that again. But we made it - 3 days and 1600 miles, road construction and all. I got her there and moved into her new home without too many problems, at least until I attempted to get home from Appleton, between severe thunderstorms and a cancelled flight, I finally make it back 24 hours later than I was supposed to.

Camp Scrapbook Paradise took place in October this year up in Portola, CA. Much fun was had by all and creativity was all around.

My last trip of the year was to Alexandria and Marksville, Louisiana for Thanksgiving to visit another friend who recently moved there. While I had been to Louisiana on a couple of occasions, I'd never been to the Marksville area. It's very pretty and I got a chance to see a bit more of the state.

Like I said, it was an eventful year. My goal for 2015 is to keep this blog up-to-date, as I'm sure there will be a lot going on as usual. Starting with next weekends trip to CHA in Anaheim.

Until the next time ------ Dream Big.

Spring Break

So spring has sprung - or so they say, at least I'd like to hope that's true, but I live in Reno, and am sure to see a bit more cool weather before spring is here to stay. But, I'll enjoy having the windows open while I can. Tonight I'm going to cook out for the first time this season - I have a tri-tip marinating as we speak. Yum!

While I've been busy the past few months, I've been suffering a bit of a creative block. I'm hoping that it is beginning to pass. Here's what I've come up with

First of all, my recipe cards for the Crock Pot Recipe swap over at Crop Chocolate

I used Sookwang tape, Microfine glitter (warm) from Elizabeth Crafts, a digital stamp and my Copic markers to create the crockpot.

Now, here is a sympathy/thinking of you card I created for a friend of mine who lost her dad recently

The green is a shimmer sheet that I ran through my texture boutique machine with a Stampin Up embossing folder.

Here are my March birthday cards for my Sister, Nephew and a close friend

The cupcake is an outline by Elizabeth Crafts, colored with copics and embellished with stickles.

Another outline by Elizabeth Crafts, done with stickles, the stamp set is from Close to my Heart.

Sorry on the last one, blogger has a mind of it's own as usual. The cake outline is another from Elizabeth Crafts, this time colored with my Copics.

Today I also made Easter baskets for 2 of my favorite young ladies

I cut these using my silhouette cameo with some papers from my stash. I will get them filled with the goodies I picked up this week, so I can deliver them on Wednesday.

I'm heading to San Francisco next weekend to celebrate the Easter holiday. I'm looking forward to spending some time exploring, during a city tour and Muir Woods tour. Hopefully, I will also get the chance to explore Golden Gate Park.

Here's wishing you all a Happy Easter - Keep Dreaming

January is almost Gone!

Wow, January has just flown by, I've already blown one of my resolutions which was to keep my blog up-to-date and here I'm just making my first post of the year. Not Good.

It's been colder than usual here in Reno, I guess the cold started around the holidays and just decided to stick around. I missed most of the snow, since I was in Las Vegas and Anaheim from Christmas Day until the 29th.

Here's what I was doing in Anaheim - California Adventure and Disneyland for a friend's birthday. We had to stop by Cars Land and Radiator Springs.

I have gotten some crafting in since the holidays, but not much, I made a few cards at the Scrapbook Paradise customer appreciation crop. Check them out.

Two birthday cards and 2 Thank You cards.

I also experimented with creating some shaving cream canvas' that I will be turning into a gift for a friend. I used the technique for creating shaving cream paper, but let the canvas boards sit in the mixture for a bit longer.  Here are the step-by-step instructions

Step 1 - Gather your supplies

I used the following
Shaving Cream - Foam, not Gel
Alcohol Ink - Stonewashed, Meadow and Purple Twilight
4 Canvas Boards
Something to mix the ink - I used a Kabob stick
Paper plate
Knife or squeege
Paper Towels

Put Shaving Cream on the paper plate spread to 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick
Place drops of Alcohol Ink on the Shaving Cream and use your stick to mix to desired results

Place the canvas board face down in the shaving cream/ink mixture - press down to ensure maximum coverage
Let the board sit in the ink mixture for approx 4-5 minutes
Remove board from ink mixture and clean off the excess shaving cream with a squeege or in my case the flat edge of a butter knife.
Use a paper tower to clean the edges and blot the ink if you desire
Let dry for a couple of hours.

This is my dyed canvas ready for decoration - the one in the upper right corner I blotted a bit too much, so the colors are very muddled. I'll post a picture when I actually have them decorated.

Yesterday, I took a Coloring with Copic's class at my LSS, the project we were working on was this little girl with a heart. My first attempt at shading, and I don't think it turned out too bad. I made it into a card for one of my best friends, who is in the hospital right now and not doing too well.

I added some stickle to the heart to give it some bling.

Right now, I'm really worried about my friend, Cindy who is in the hospital and not doing so well. Unfortunately, she's in Vegas and I can't get there right now. Please, if you get a minute remember her in your thoughts and prayers.

Everyone have a good week, and remember to Dream Big!

Time for Giving Thanks

Wow! Where has the year gone? This week is already Thanksgiving and I have so much to give thanks for. Working at the Food Drive for the Evelyn Mount Outreach here in town this week, I thought about how lucky I really am, while I don't have everything I want, I do have everything I ever need.

Many years ago, while making a cross-country move, I was homeless for a week - not just living in a hotel, with no job, but truly homeless, sleeping on the floor in a friend of mine's deserted home, with no electricity, no hot water or air conditioning (summer in Vegas) just my sleeping bag on the floor. For that I am thankful, because it made me realize that I have friends who while they could not spare much, could give me a safe place to sleep, friends who lent me their showers so I could be clean for my job. After a week I was able to afford to house myself again.....I hope that I never have to experience that again.

Now I have a nice roof over my head, a job, and plenty of food to eat. I can pay my bills and take vacations when I like. I have so much. I have beautiful, wonderful sisters, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews that I love, wonderful aunts, uncles and cousins, who love me with all my faults (I think), and friends who are there when the going gets tough. I am blessed and truly thankful.

I'm also very thankful that I get to spend time being creative in my crafting space. The past couple of weeks I have been making Christmas Cards. Last weekend I was lucky enough to spend time with friends, first getting an Arbonne facial (thanks Bernadette) and then crafting with Tash and Tanya. I got a few cards made and I was able to make a few more today, so here are my offerings.

These first 2 cards were made with Graphic 45 paper 'Nutcracker Suite' is the collection. I really like how they turned out.

Sorry, again blogger is not cooperating with the loading of files , these cards were made with Bo Bunny - Winter Joy, probably my all time favorite line

Echo Park's Wintertime was the bases for these cards - I found the prototype on Pinterest, I really like how they turned out. *yes, it's tin-foil

And lastly, these are really some scrap cards, very simple with a simple stamp and some bling.

Looking forward to a busy week, work, seeing the latest installment of the Twilight saga with the girls, Thanksgiving at Trav and Tawn's, searching for Christmas trees in the mountains, and hopefully some more scrappy time.

I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy that turkey dinner and take time to count your blessings.

Stinkin' Cute!

So I'll bet when you saw the title, you thought oh, she's talking about the fur babies, while they are stinkin' cute, I'm actually referring to the treat holders that I made today.  Now to fill them with the treats.

So what do you think? These are for two of my favorite young ladies for halloween, I hope they enjoy them.

I also made a card for a baby shower next weekend, the theme of the shower is.....

you guessed it, Pirates...the inside of the cards says "to the newest member of the Kirby Crew"

My last 2 creations were Xmas Cards to add to the growing pile, since I have to make a total of 40 or so, If I keep going at this rate, I might have enough by Valentine's Day....

These were actually inspired by a card sample I saw on Pinterest.

So, it's been a busy weekend here in Reno, with the Nevada Day Parade on Saturday as well as attending a Pumpkin Walk last night. Unfortunately today I woke up with a sore throat, so I haven't felt like getting much done at all. Hopefully tomorrow will be better and I can finish the house cleaning after I hit the gym in the evening.

Keep Dreaming and have a Happy Halloween.
Blessed Be

What a Week

It's Sunday night and I'm thinking about what needs to be done this next week, and wondering where the past week went. Between work, the gym and a trip to Vegas it just flew by.

Last weekend was the Stitch Retreat in Las Vegas, which was fun as always, It's incredible the beautiful work these women do. I"m currently working on a Baby Announcement for a friend who had a beautiful little girl a couple of months ago. I'm about half-way through the project and will try and post a picture in the next couple of weeks.

Good news is, I've joined the gym and been consistent about going - three days/week, usually M - W, Thursdays and Fridays are way too busy. I'm enjoying myself while exercising and hoping to lose some weight in the process.

Another trip to Vegas this week....I think I'm tired of flying back and forth, hopefully now I can stay home for a bit. 3 trips in 3 weeks is a bit much.

Today I finally got some time to work on the Crop Chocolate October Focus Group Challenge - it was Pinterest inspired. Here's my inspiration and what I came up with.

It was kind of fun to do three different cards using the same inspiration.

Pinterest was also the inspiration for a treat I made today...Crock Pot Cinnamon Almonds...

Boy are they yummy. Oh the caption on the picture is for the Picture a Day a group of us are doing on Facebook.

I also got out this morning a took a couple of pictures of the beautiful foliage near my home.

The weather is supposed to turn rainy - with a chance of snow in the mountains tomorrow and Tuesday. So I decided to make a big pot of my favorite soup today - Don's Potato Soup, can't wait for it to be done. This will also be the recipe I use for the next Crop Chocolate recipe swap, which I will be working on next weekend.

Have a fantastic week and Keep Dreaming.......
